Take your studies abroad with TAFE Queensland.

At TAFE Queensland the learning doesn't stop in the classroom! We can offer you a variety of opportunities to join a faculty led study abroad tour or participate in a short course with one of our partner institutes around the world.

Would you like to learn Chinese in China, study building design in Denmark or perhaps immerse yourself in the fashion industry in Hong Kong?  If so, check out our sample itineraries on the Prospectus. TAFE Queensland offers you a variety of tours to choose from, with most programs departing in May and September with a duration of two weeks.

Cost and Scholarships

Some programs have grant funding available. Usually programs are limited to ten grants per program and are awarded to the top ten candidates. To be eligible you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

Costs vary according to your destination and program. Typically programs will cover your flights, accommodation, transfers and cultural activities and you will need to cover your own meals. Refer to the program fact sheet for more information about additional costs and expenses.

It is important to plan your finances. As a general rule, you should have at least AUD$1,500 available for every two weeks abroad.

How to Prepare for Departure

Congratulations you are heading overseas!

Before making arrangements to travel overseas there's a list of things you need to do:

  1. Read through the Pre-Departure Guide
  2. Check travel advise and register your travel with Smart Traveller
  3. Research the countries you plan to travel to, especially in regards to safety issue, transportation in country and accommodation.
  4. Let family and friends know your travel itinerary.


Here is a checklist to consider before you go overseas:

  • Valid passport for the entire length of your stay overseas plus six months
  • Apply for the appropriate Visa
  • Check you are appropriately covered by insurance
  • Undergo a Health check, ask your GP about vaccinations needed
  • Register with the Department of Foreign Affairs on arrival at your destination.

Returning Home

There is such a thing as reverse culture shock! You might feel restless and bored and you might need to adjust to life back at home in Australia. Don't worry, these feelings are normal and shared by many. Remember to stay involved the exchange community and say in touch with the friends you made on the tour.
